Asia Cup 2026: India Women’s Cricket team skip trophy ceremony; BCCI calls it unified decision

India’s women’s cricket team skipped the trophy presentation after defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs to win their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title in Dubai. The Indian players were absent from the stage as ACC president and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi handed over the runners-up cheque to Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the decision was a “conscious, institutional” call taken in view of prevailing circumstances and sentiments. He said the BCCI had communicated its position to the ACC beforehand and maintained that winning the tournament mattered more than the trophy ceremony.
