Exit Polls Lok Sabha Results: As voting enters final few hours, is Prashant Kishor still sticking with his BJP 300-plus forecast?

Poll strategist Prashant Kishor has predicted that the BJP will cross 300 seats in the Lok Sabha elections this year. Now that the voting process in the last phase has entered the final few hours and with the outcome of the exit polls set to be available shortly, is he still sticking with his forecast? Speaking with Vir Sanghvi at The Print, Prashant Kishor expressed his expectation that the Modi-led BJP will secure a similar or slightly better number of seats compared to the 2019 elections. "To my mind, BJP is going to come back with similar or slightly better majority. In my assessment, in west and northern India, I don't see BJP taking a material hit in terms of seat," he said. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, BJP had secured 303 seats, with a significant number from northern and western India.

Prashant Kishore's Regional Analysis: North and West India

Kishor emphasized that he does not foresee the BJP losing many seats in north and west India. He highlighted that the BJP has secured "adequate cover from east and southern India," suggesting a balanced performance across different regions.

"I see BJP increasing their seat and vote share from the east and south India so I have said that BJP is likely to get a similar number of seats if there is no material damage from west and north," Kishor explained.

Prashant Kishore on Eastern and Southern India

Kishor, known as PK, has experience working as a strategist for various political parties, including BJP and Congress. He predicts gains for BJP in eastern India, particularly due to the anti-incumbency factor in Odisha and West Bengal. "BJP may gain in east and south as people have not tested them. The party has spread its wings in Telangana and done a good alliance in Andhra. BJP has also been trying hard to increase their vote share in Tamil Nadu and Kerala for many years now," he said.

Absence of Strong Opposition

Kishor concluded by noting the lack of a strong and organized opposition as a factor in BJP's favor. "In absence of a strong and organized opposition, I do not see a risk of BJP losing the election," he remarked.

The final phase of the election and the subsequent exit polls will be critical in determining whether Kishor's predictions hold true.
