BJP may field three of its sitting MPs in Telangana Assembly polls

After Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, BJP is likely to field several of its sitting MPs in the upcoming Telangana assembly elections, party sources said.

BJP's Telangana core group comprising the party's state unit chief and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, general secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar, campaign committee chief Etela Rajender and several others held a marathon meeting at the party president JP Nadda's residence in New Delhi on Friday. Union home minister Amit Shah was also present during the deliberations.

BJP's central election committee meeting has finalised names for the first list of candidates for Telangana.


The party is likely to field its three sitting MPs - Bandi, Arvind Dharmapuri and Soyam Bapu Rao - in the upcoming assembly polls scheduled to be held on November 13.

Party circles believe that Bandi may contest from Karimnagar, Dharmapuri from Korutla and Bapu Rao from Boath.

Former cabinet minister in the BRS government, Etela Rajender, may contest from two seats Huzurabad and Gajwel. BJP's national vice president DK Aruna could contest from Gadwala, former MP Jitender Reddy from Mahabubnagar and another senior leader Raghunanadan Rao from Dubbaka.

BJP had created a buzz by winning four Lok Sabha seats in 2019 general elections, but has lost steam in the past few months, with Congress emerging as the main challenger to ruling BRS in Telangana. BJP is looking to recover the lost ground and enter the election arena with all guns blazing.
