Bengaluru: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi
Congress has secured a huge win in Karnataka, and as expected, the Gandhi family has been showered with credit for the landslide victory. The Gandhi family did their toil in the 2023 Karnataka assembly polls.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with former Congress presidents Rahul and Sonia, held back-to-back rallies and roadshows in Karnataka. She held 20-plus rallies and roadshows in the state. Priyanka held a power-packed roadshow in Bengaluru's Vijayanagar. Former Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi also participated in a number of rallies. On the other hand, Rahul held 17-plus rallies and roadshows in the state.

The Congress at the time of writing has won 107 seats and is leading in 29. But the sweet victory of Karnataka was somewhat soured by the party's defeat in Uttar Pradesh civic polls.

Karnataka’s win at what cost?

Priyanka Gandhi, who was also UP in charge, held mega shows down south while missing the UP civic polls completely. The Congress general secretary has not visited her battleground, UP, even once in the past six months. Her last action at UPCC headquarters took place way back in July 2022.

In Municipal Council polls, Congress won seven seats; in comparison, the ruling BJP took over 98 council seats, the Samajwadi Party got 59, and Bahujan Samaj Party in 19. The biggest point was that other parties (16) had more lead than Congress (7) in Municipal Council polls, reported Times Now.

Congress is also losing in Nagar Panchayats. The ruling party is leading in 236 seats, SP in 143, BSP in 30, Congress in 34, and others in 43, reported Times Now at 4 pm.

True, the UP Civic polls are local in nature but a win there would have lifted the spirits of Congress workers in the state in the run-up to 2024 lok sabha polls.
