A low-pressure area formed in the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea on Monday morning is likely to intensify into a depression on Tuesday and then into a cyclonic storm over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east-central areas on Wednesday, the IMD has said.
This may result in rainfall and thundershowers at many places across the stateo in the next 48 hours, the Met Centre in Bengaluru said in its latest bulletin.
Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada districts of Coastal Karnataka, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, and Shivamogga districts of South Interior Karnataka may witness rainfall within 24 hours, IMD said.
Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, and Shivamogga districts of South Interior Karnataka in the next 48 hours, the Met office said.
“Thunderstorm with rain accompanied by lightning & gusty winds with wind speed reaching 30-40 Kmph likely to occur at isolated places over the State in next 48 hours,” added the IMD.
"South-interior Karnataka may witness light to moderate rain with thundershowers and lightning in many places over the next 2-3 days," TOI quoted IMD Bengaluru senior scientist A Prasad as saying.
