Karnataka top leaders file nominations with 3 days to go

There were 198 nominations from the BJP, 195 from the Congress and 86 from the JDS. May 20 is the last day for filing of nominations.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC0 president DK Shivakumar, JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy and minister V Sommana were among the 842 candidates who filed their nominations for the May 10 assembly polls on Monday.

There were 198 nominations from the BJP, 195 from the Congress and 86 from the JDS. April 20 is the last day for filing of nominations.

Shivakumar is contesting from Kanakpura in Ramanagara district. He filed his nomination in the Vokkaliga bastion after a massive roadshow and expressed his confidence in the Congress winning more than 150 seats in the elections. He will be facing Revenue Minister R Ashok.


In another Vokkaliga stronghold of Channapatna, HD Kumaraswamy, filed his nomination seeking reelection from there. He will face BJP MLC CP Yogeshwar. Hi sson Nikhil Kumaraswamy will be contesting his first assembly polls from Ramanagara, after being defeated in the Lok Sabha polls in Mandya. He is seeking to succeed his mother Anita Kumaraswamy in Ramanagara.

From the ruling BJP, V Sommana, who is challenging Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, filed his nomination from Varuna assembly constituency.
