Voting for the 68 assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh began today at 8 a.m. and will continue until 5 p.m. Hans Raj, the deputy speaker of the Himachal Pradesh assembly, is running again from Churah, while the Congress has fielded Yashwant Singh from here. From this seat, NK Jaryal of the AAP is also running.
The Churah constituency is only open to candidates from the Scheduled Castes. Following the delimitation of Legislative Assembly constituencies in 2008, the constituency was established.
This seat was a pillar of the Congress Party until BJP leader Hans Raj broke it in 2012. He has been the MLA for Churah since 2012.
A total of 412 candidates, including 24 women, are running for the 68 Assembly seats. Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat will both have their votes counted on December 8.
In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP won 44 seats, while the Congress had to settle for 21. At the time, two independent candidates and one CPM candidate were also victorious.
