RJD's Tejashwi Yadav seeks booth-wise data on voter deletions

A day after the Election Commission released Bihar's draft electoral roll, the opposition RJD has raised serious concerns about the deletion of over 65 lakh names. At a press conference in Patna, party leader Tejashwi Yadav demanded transparency and a booth-wise breakdown of the deletions.

"What is the basis for declaring 65 lakh voters as deceased, transferred or absent? Was any document collected from families to confirm deaths?" Yadav asked.

He also questioned the EC's criteria for striking off migrant voters, noting that if 36 lakh names were removed due to migration, the number should be higher than the 3 crore seasonal workers officially recorded as migrating out of Bihar annually.


Yadav claimed the EC had given "only seven days" for objections and demanded an extension. He also said his own name had been deleted-an assertion later countered by the Patna DM, who cited official records showing Yadav's name was intact.

The RJD leader called for the SC to take suo motu cognizance. The apex court is already set to hear a related plea on August 12.

BJP leaders slammed Yadav for what they called falsehoods. "He lied about his name being deleted," said Bihar Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary.
