Modi lists 'katta, kushasan, katuta...' as 5 Ks to describe Congress-RJD rule, says 35,000 abductions took place under their watch
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Muzaffarpur on Thursday, launched a sharp attack on the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), accusing their leaders of insulting ‘Chhathi Maiyya’, a deity revered during the Chhath Puja festival, in a bid to win votes in the Bihar Assembly elections.

PM Modi Says ‘Chhath Is Faith, Not Drama’

Addressing a massive gathering, Modi said that for Congress and RJD, “Chhath Puja is nothing but drama”. He added that the people of Bihar, who hold the festival close to their hearts, would neither forget nor forgive this insult for generations.

“It is my first visit to Bihar after Chhath Puja, a festival that has now earned global recognition. Chhath symbolises both devotion and equality. My government is striving to secure a UNESCO heritage tag for it,” Modi said.

He also shared a personal anecdote, saying, “I often listen to Chhath songs while travelling. Once, I heard a touching rendition by a girl from Nagaland. While this son of yours is working to give Chhath its due honour, Congress-RJD leaders are mocking it, calling it a ‘nautanki’ (drama).”

Rahul Gandhi’s Remark Sparks Row

Modi’s remarks came a day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during an election rally in the same district, alleged that the Prime Minister’s plan to take a dip in the Yamuna River on Chhath Puja was merely a “drama”.

Gandhi had claimed that the PM abandoned his plan after learning that the site prepared for his ritual bath contained clean, piped water rather than actual Yamuna water, which, he said, was too polluted for a dip.

Reacting strongly, Modi said, “Look at the depths these people can fall to for votes. Their words are not just against me, but an insult to the sacred festival of Chhath, an insult Bihar will never forgive.”

Modi Compares Congress-RJD Ties to ‘Water and Oil’

Continuing his attack, Modi claimed that the alliance between RJD and Congress was unnatural and driven purely by a hunger for power.

“Their relationship is like water and oil, they cannot mix. Yet, they have come together to grab power at any cost so they can loot Bihar once again,” he said.

Modi also alleged that reports were emerging of frequent clashes between RJD and Congress workers across the state.

‘RJD-Congress Represent 5 Ks of Misrule,’ Says Modi

The Prime Minister coined what he called the “five Ks” of the Congress-RJD alliance, katta (country-made guns, symbolising lawlessness), kroorta (cruelty), katuta (social bitterness), kushasan (misgovernance), and corruption.

He alleged that during the RJD’s rule, Bihar had witnessed over 35,000 abductions and widespread criminal activities. “Goons used to loot vehicle showrooms, and today, songs glorifying ‘katta’ and ‘dunali’ are being played at their rallies,” he said.

‘NDA Stands for Culture and Development’: Modi

In his trademark style, Prime Minister Narendra Modi infused his speech with local flavour, switching briefly to the Vajjika dialect and praising the people of Muzaffarpur for their “sweet way of speaking.” He celebrated the city’s fame for its shahi litchi and remembered its deep historical roots, paying tribute to freedom fighter Khudiram Bose and eminent Hindi writers Ram Vriksh Benipuri and Janaki Vallabh Shastri.

Taking aim at the opposition, Modi asked how those who had “looted the Railways” could ever promise to improve Bihar’s connectivity, a direct swipe at the RJD. He also mentioned the land-for-jobs scam, in which RJD chief Lalu Prasad and the INDIA bloc’s CM candidate Tejashwi Yadav are named as accused.

The Prime Minister further recalled the Golu murder case of 2001, the kidnapping and murder of an eight-year-old boy that had once shaken north Bihar, to highlight what he called the breakdown of law and order under earlier governments.

Wrapping up his address, Modi positioned the NDA as a coalition that represents both culture and development. “While they insult our traditions, the NDA stands for preserving our heritage and ensuring all-round progress,” he said, drawing loud applause from the crowd.

He ended with a rousing call for support, leading the chant, “Phir ek baar NDA sarkar, phir ek baar susashan sarkar” (NDA government once again, good governance once again), as the audience echoed in unison.
