): Singer and BJP candidate Maithili Thakur, who is leading from Alinagar in the Bihar election on Friday, said that it feels "like a dream," adding that she hopes to meet the expectations of the people.

Thakur is ahead by 4,638 votes, securing 30,653 votes after nine rounds of counting, while Binod Mishra from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) trails with 26,015 votes.

Speaking to ANI, Maithili Thakur said, "This is like a dream. People have a lot of expectations of me... This will be my first term as an MLA, and I will do my best for my constituency... I will serve my people as their daughter... I can only see Alinagar right now and how I can work them..."

The trends suggest that the renewed JD(U)-BJP partnership, backed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nationwide popularity, is steering the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) toward a sweeping mandate of over 243 seat assembly.

The Nitish Kumar-led NDA lead in190 seats, with BJP leading in 86, JDU in 76, LJP 20, HAM 4 and RLM 4 as per data from the EC at 12:18 pm.

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, the Alinagar race was one of the closest in the state. Mishri Lal Yadav of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) narrowly defeated Binod Mishra (RJD) by just 3,101 votes, securing 61,082 votes to Mishra’s 57,981.

Five years earlier, in 2015, RJD’s Abdul Bari Siddiqui had comfortably won the seat with 67,461 votes, defeating his nearest rival by over 13,000 votes.

With Thakur entering the fray, this year’s race has taken on a new dimension. The BJP is seeking to expand its base in north Bihar beyond its traditional urban and upper-caste strongholds. The RJD, meanwhile, is counting on its organisational network and caste arithmetic to retain its edge.

Counting for all 243 assembly constituencies begins at 8:00am, and early trends from Alinagar are expected to set the tone for the broader Darbhanga region.
