According to the Election Commission, the Katihar Assembly constituency registered a voter turnout of 79.10 percent during the polling conducted on November 11 in the second phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025.

Bihar Assembly Elections: What Happened in Katihar in 2020 and 2015?

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections, BJP’s Tarkishore Prasad secured victory in Katihar with a lead of 10,519 votes (6.19%). He garnered 82,669 votes, accounting for 48.47% of the total vote share. His closest rival, RJD candidate Dr. Ram Prakash Mahto, received 72,150 votes (42.30%). Independent candidate Mohammad Kalamuddin Ansari, also known as Kalam, finished third with 2,533 votes (1.49%).

In the 2015 elections, Tarkishore Prasad again won the Katihar seat for the BJP, this time with a margin of 14,894 votes (9.76%). He secured 66,048 votes, representing a 42.98% vote share. JD(U) candidate Bijay Singh came second with 51,154 votes (33.29%), while NCP candidate Dr. Ram Prakash Mahto finished third with 18,856 votes (12.27%).
