While women from other states can still apply for government jobs in Bihar, their applications will be considered in the general category.
Domicile policy had been a major demand of the opposition in Bihar, especially since last year when women from other states were recruited as teachers in significant numbers.
The cabinet meeting was chaired by chief minister Nitish Kumar.
Women constitute almost half of Bihar's population and Kumar has always focused on this large section of voters.
S. Siddharth, additional chief secretary of the cabinet secretariat, while announcing the decision at a press conference in Patna, said another major outcome of Tuesday's cabinet meeting was the approval to the formation of the state youth commission.
CM Kumar said in a post on X, "I am pleased to inform that with the aim of providing more and more employment opportunities to the youth of Bihar, training them, and making them empowered and capable, the state government has decided to form the Bihar Youth Commission, and today the cabinet has also approved the formation of the Bihar Youth Commission."
He added that the commission will coordinate with government departments to ensure better education and employment for the youth.
The commission will have one chairman, two vice chairmen and seven members.
