Hasanpur, one of the most politically sensitive constituencies in north Bihar, is witnessing a renewed battle for dominance in the 2025 Assembly elections as JD(U)’s Raj Kumar Ray and RJD’s Mala Pushpam face off in a closely watched contest.

The seat, previously won by Tej Pratap Yadav in 2020, has returned to the centre of Bihar’s electoral narrative with the RJD leader shifting to Mahua this year.

Hasanpur was a reliable JD(U) stronghold until 2020, when Raj Kumar Ray — the party’s long-time representative — was unseated by Tej Pratap Yadav with a victory margin of 21,139 votes.

Why Hasanpur remains a crucial battleground

Hasanpur falls under the Rosera subdivision of Samastipur district and is part of the Khagaria Lok Sabha constituency, a politically active region where caste equations and turnout patterns often indicate wider electoral swings.

The seat has a Yadav-dominated voter base, along with significant numbers of Muslims, Kushwahas, Nishads, and other backward communities. This complex demographic mix has traditionally favoured the RJD but has also given the JD(U) opportunities to break through when local factors align in its favour.
