Harnaut, one of Bihar’s most politically symbolic constituencies, is witnessing a charged contest in the 2025 Assembly elections as JD(U) veteran Hari Narayan Singh seeks a fourth consecutive win against Congress candidate Arun Kumar, with the Jan Suraaj Party’s Kamlesh Paswan adding to the triangular fight.

A seat tied closely to Nitish Kumar’s legacy

Located in Nalanda district, Harnaut carries unusual political weight as it includes Kalyan Bigha, the ancestral village of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The constituency, part of the Nalanda Lok Sabha seat, has long been associated with Kumar’s early political journey — he contested from Harnaut four times, securing victories in 1985 (Janata Party) and 1995 (Samata Party).
