Congress treads cautiously on Bihar’s final voters of SIR list after ECI revision

The AICC did not make any official comment till late Wednesday on the final list of voters in Bihar after the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll of the poll-bound state by the ECI.

The Opposition party, which had made the SIR exercise a big issue with Rahul Gandhi leading a yatra in Bihar against it, seems to be treading cautiously on the post-SIR voters list with some party functionaries maintaining that they are closely studying the list before making any comments. Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president Rajesh Kumar too said the final list is under in-house scrutiny.

"The recent SIR exercise in Bihar has been mired in questions of fairness and transparency right from the start. Congress workers will conduct a thorough assessment of SIR across the state, examining how many names were added and how many were removed. This issue will not end here," he said in a social media post after the ECI published the final list of voters.


Within the Opposition, some sections have been of late advocating that their campaign should not get fully stuck on the SIR issue if the matter is fizzling out on the ground and that the Opposition campaign should start increasingly focussing on the larger incumbency issues of the JDU-BJP government.
