Don-turned-politician Anant Kumar Singh, popularly known as 'Chhote Sarkar', submitted his nomination papers as a JD(U) candidate from the Mokama assembly seat in Bihar, declaring movable and immovable assets worth Rs 37.88 crore, according to his election affidavit.

Singh filed the papers on Tuesday, before the JD(U) officially released its candidate list for the upcoming assembly elections. Party sources said he submitted the nomination after receiving the party symbol from the top leadership.

Anant Kumar Singh: Family assets and background

Singh’s wife, Neelam Devi, who won the Mokama seat in 2020 on an RJD ticket, has shifted her support to the NDA government in Bihar. She declared assets worth Rs 62.72 crore in her affidavit.


According to the documents filed with the returning officer, Singh has movable assets worth Rs 26.66 crore and immovable assets of Rs 11.22 crore. Neelam Devi owns movable assets of Rs 13.07 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 49.65 crore.

The affidavit also states that Singh has Rs 15.61 lakh in cash and Neelam Devi has Rs 34.60 lakh. Both have multiple bank accounts and gold jewellery, with Singh’s jewellery valued at Rs 15 lakh and Neelam Devi’s at Rs 76.61 lakh.

Singh’s movable assets include three luxury SUVs worth Rs 3.23 crore. Neelam Devi owns three luxury cars valued at Rs 77.62 lakh. Their other assets include horses and cows.

Anant Kumar Singh: Criminal cases and political history

Singh is facing 28 criminal cases, according to his affidavit. He is a five-time MLA from Mokama and his family has mostly held the seat since 1990, except for a brief period when it was won by a rival strongman.

In 2022, Singh handed over the seat to his wife after being disqualified due to a UAPA conviction. He was recently acquitted by the Patna High Court. Singh stated that he can no longer entrust the seat to his spouse and is contesting himself this time.

The RJD has pledged to challenge Singh in Mokama by supporting candidates capable of giving him the toughest fight.
