A day before the first phase of polling in the Bihar Assembly elections -- slated for Thursday -- the Jan Suraaj candidate from Munger Assembly constituency snapped ties with his party and jumped ship to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Sanjay Singh, the Jan Suraaj Party candidate from Bihar's Munger Assembly seat, joined the BJP on Wednesday, on the eve of the first phase of assembly elections, officials said.

Singh extended his support to NDA nominee Kumar Pranay, the BJP candidate from the seat.

"Bihar has witnessed tremendous growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. I am confident that the state will continue to develop further under the NDA rule," Singh told reporters after joining the saffron party.

He expressed confidence that the NDA would win the polls with a huge margin.

Despite repeated attempts, no senior leaders of Jan Suraaj Party were available for comment on the development.

Meanwhile, BJP’s sitting MLA from Pirpainti, Lalan Paswan, joined the RJD after being denied a party ticket, sources said.
