Bihar Poll results 2025 at 11 am: NDA set for big win with leads in over 180 seats
Bihar witnessed a decisive political shift on Friday as votes were counted across all 243 Assembly constituencies, bringing into focus the performance of the Janata Dal (United) and the future of incumbant Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

With counting beginning at 8 a.m. and results firming up by evening, the verdict has set the tone for Bihar’s next political chapter.

A high-stakes mandate for Bihar’s political leaders

The 2025 election had been billed as one of the most consequential in recent years — not only for the ruling JD(U) but also for RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor. The final numbers today will offer the first clear indication of where voter sentiment stands.

For Nitish Kumar, the verdict shapes both his political legacy and his ability to navigate future alliances. The JD(U)’s seat tally — and its spread across regions — is likely to determine his influence in the next government formation exercise.

Tejashwi Yadav, who mounted a vigorous challenge through the RJD-led campaign, will now weigh the results against expectations of emerging as Bihar’s dominant opposition voice.

Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj, contesting its first full-scale election, has drawn significant scrutiny. With Kishor stepping into electoral politics after years as one of the country’s most sought-after strategists, today’s outcome serves as a crucial test of whether his grassroots outreach has translated into votes.

How the counting unfolded

Counting began at 8 a.m., starting with postal ballots, in line with the Election Commission of India’s protocol. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were opened half an hour later, under a stringent security and surveillance regime.

All EVMs were sealed and stored in strongrooms secured by a double-lock system, guarded continuously by central forces and monitored through CCTV feeds. Early trends started emerging by midday, with full results stabilising toward the evening.

Record turnout, massive deployment

Bihar recorded its highest-ever turnout of 67.13%, comfortably surpassing the 62.57% turnout in 2020 and even the high participation seen during the 1998 Lok Sabha polls. Not a single repoll was required across the 2,616 candidates and 12 recognised parties — a significant indicator of smooth polling.

To manage the massive counting exercise, the ECI deployed 4,372 counting tables across the state. Each was manned by a supervisor, an assistant, and a micro-observer. A total of 243 Returning Officers and an equal number of Counting Observers oversaw the process, supported by more than 18,000 counting agents.

Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips were matched with EVM results in five randomly selected polling stations in each constituency as part of a multi-layered verification system. The entire counting process was video recorded for transparency and audit purposes.

The party’s performance is being closely assessed to gauge the public’s response to Nitish Kumar’s leadership, marked by multiple alliance shifts and an unusually high-stakes campaign.
