RBI orders weekly loan data reporting to credit information cos from April 1, 2026

The move will help in better underwriting of credit and monitoring of loans. This directive will be effective April 1, 2026.
"Given the increasing reliance of credit institutions on credit information reports (CIRs) in credit underwriting processes, it is imperative that the CIRs provided by credit information companies reflect more recent information," the central bank said.
The RBI also proposed measures to facilitate faster data submission and error rectification.
The regulator said that credit information can be updated regularly on 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th and last day of the respective month. lenders will have to submit the full file containing monthly credit information records by the third day of the next month. Accounts opened since the last reporting cycle and accounts wherein the relationship between the borrower and the lender has ended since the last reporting cycle will also need to be uploaded.
RBI told credit bureaus to share the list of lenders which fail to adhere to the data submission timelines to it on March 31 and September 30 each year.
