Tracking a decline in Asian peers, Indian equity indices opened lower on Monday, dragged down by index heavyweights ICICI Bank, Titan and HDFC Bank.

The BSE Sensex was trading 170 points, or 0.21%, lower at 79,829. The Nifty50 was down 24 points, or 0.1%, trading at 24,300 around 9:20 am.

From the Sensex pack, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Titan, Infosys, Reliance Industries, and SBI were the top contributors dragging the index down, while HUL, Tata Motors, ITC, and M&M were the top gainers.

Titan share price declined 4% in early trade after the company reported weak growth in the jewellery business during the first quarter of FY25, disappointing the street.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors shares surged 1.5% in early trade after the company posted a 5% year-on-year growth in JLR factory-level sales in the June quarter.
