'You were my strength, inspiration.' Sanjay pens emotional note on dad Sunil Dutt's 17th death anniversary

Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt had a very beautiful yet complicated relationship with his father, actor and politician Sunil Dutt, who died on May 25, 2005 after a heart attack. Remembering his father on his 17th death anniversary, the 'Khal nayak' actor penned an emotional note, recounting the unwavering support he received from his old man, in his most trying days.

Sharing an old photo of him with his father, the actor wrote, "Through thick and thin, you were always there to guide and protect me. You were my strength, inspiration and support in every need... the best a son could ask for. You will always be in my heart Dad, I miss you!"

This isn't the first time that the actor has shared his father's photo or talked about him on social media. Dutt's Instagram has several old memories of him with his dad, whom he called his 'idol' and 'mentor'.


Dutt's younger sister Priya Dutt also remember the veteran actor by sharing a montage of photos from the Dutt family album. She called her father, her confidant, and quoted Robert Frost's poem, 'Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening' and said that while her father is not here, his legacy and his works of art lives on.

In the caption, the politician recounted how 2005 was a definitive year for her, as she lost her dad, but became a mother herself.

"It's been 17 years today, 25th May 2005. That year many changes happened in my life. I lost that one person who meant the world to me and that same year I experienced the joy of the birth of my son who means the world to me," she captioned the post.

Dutt also remembered her late mother, actressNargis Dutt, who died of pancreatic cancer on May 3, 1981 at the age of 51. Taking wisdom from Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, she wrote, "Life and death are one thread, the same line viewed from different sides #LaoTzu #sunildutt #nargisdutt."
