Top boss Sanjiv Mehta ensures gender parity at HUL, credits the women in his life for it

Mehta finds motivation at home to do this.

As a business leader, Sanjiv Mehta must constantly reset the conversation to ensure gender parity at the workplace. It’s a good thing that he finds enough motivation at home for this. At a recent day-long conference on the subject in Mumbai, the HUL top boss credited the women in his life for lending a hand with this.

“I am surrounded by three wonderful women, my wife (Mona) and two daughters (twin girls, Naina and Roshni). And that is when the penny drops, that you have to ensure fairness in every manner, not just in your family but also your organisation,” Mehta said.

“Every day when I go home, I’m made acutely aware of the fact that I have to make a better workplace.” Of course, women are playing their part and challenging what were traditionally viewed as male bastions.

As an example, he spoke of his daughter’s graduating class back in 2015, “When my daughter graduated from MIT as an engineer in 2015, 48 per cent of her graduating class were women.” That is a number worth watching.
