As summer temperatures soar, many people instinctively reach for chilled beverages like soft drinks, iced sodas, sugary juices, energy drinks, cold coffees, and fizzy refreshments to beat the intense heat. While these cooling options may offer temporary relief, regular consumption of processed and sugar-loaded drinks can negatively impact gut health, digestion, hydration levels, and overall wellness. Excess sugar, artificial additives, and carbonated ingredients may also contribute to bloating, energy crashes, and poor metabolism. The alternative? Well, Darjeeling-born cook and food influencer, Rajshree Manger Thapa, has the perfect solution.

Rajshree Manger Thapa, better known as Raji Didi, recently dropped a video on Instagram, sharing a simple, homemade beverage recipe made with lemon and roasted gram flour aka sattu that not only cools your stomach, aids digestion and offers energy but is also deliciously flavourful.

Nimbu-sattu summer drink recipe

In the first step, Rajshree assembled the ingredients on a table. They were:

A bowl of sattu
Grated onions, carrots, and coconut
Diced green chillies
1 lemon sliced in half

Some jeera powder

While adding all the ingredients in a large container, Rajshree revealed that the nimbu-sattu sharbat is high in good calories and fats that keep you full for long hours, ensuring that you do not binge eat on junk food or sugary delights, putting a curb on unhealthy cravings. She mixed the concoction uniformly and kept the drink aside.

After that, Rajshree added some coriander and mint leaves to a separate bowl to prepare the chutney, sprinkling a dash of black salt. She blended them in a mixer and poured the green chutney into a small bowl. As per the cook, the condiment gives a flavourful punch with its sharp notes bursting into your mouth.

The Bengaluru cook added the coriander-mint chutney in a glass, followed by a spoonful of sabja (basil) seeds. The sattu-nimbu drink kept aside went inside the glass as well. For the finishing touch, Rajshree topped the healthy summer drink with coconut and pomegranate shavings. And voila. Your homemade sharbat is ready to be gulped down. She claimed that the lemon-sattu beverage can be consumed anytime of the day, especially when you are feeling exhausted and low on energy.
