Imagine getting to gorge on these dishes for just Rs 24!
Although it sounds pretty much unbelievable today, once upon a time, a mere Rs 24 was all you needed to dine like a king.
Recently a 37-year-old restaurant bill has started doing the rounds on the internet. The bill dated 20 December 1985, shows that a customer had ordered Shahi Paneer, Dal Makhni, Raita, and a few chapatis. These food items were priced at Rs 8, Rs 5, Rs 5, and Rs 6, respectively. The bill was originally shared on 12 August 2013 on Facebook by Lazeez Restaurant & Hotel. The bill total was Rs 26, including the service tax which was about Rs 2. The bill has sent the netizens into a tizzy. In most metropolitan cities, we can barely afford a packet of biscuits at Rs 26 (if that). Having such a lavish meal at such a price sounds straight out of a fantasy today. Many netizens, especially those past 50 felt nostalgic for a bygone era when prices were not so sky-high. The younger crowd was simply blown away by the revelation.
A user said, “is janam me ye price wapas nahi aayega. Dekh ke khus raho [these prices will not come back in this life]. Another said, “2013 me yhi bill Rs 2,630 ka ayega [this was the bill in 2013]"
“Where are we now? 20 times for sure," one said. “Gone are the Golden Days when food was affordable and eating enjoyable."
“OMG... It was so cheap then... yes of course the value of money was far far far more those days...."

However, some social media users felt that the bill might be a scam. A user who claimed to be a CA (Chartered Accountant) said that the bill was wrong as there was no ST (service tax) bill back in 1985. “This bill is wrong... at the time of 1985's, there was no S.T. as this act comes into existence in 1994. Thank you," while another mentioned, “this bill seem to be fake as there was no service tax in 1985, think bout it.”
