At a global event in San Francisco, Samsung took wraps off its upcoming Galaxy S10 range of smartphones. From the past two years, Samsung has launched two variants in the S range devices – a standard variant (S8/S9) and a plus variant with a larger display (S8+/S9+). This time with the S10 range, Samsung has announced three variants – the S10e, S10, and S10+.
All three smartphones feature new Dynamic AMOLED screens with the new Samsung Infinity O style notch design with which is also known as the punch hole display. The S10e has a 5.8-inch full HD+ screen, S10 has a 6.1-inch screen while the S10+ has a. 6.4-inch screen: both with quad HD+ curved displays. The screens are the world’s first to support HDR10+ and have a 19:9 aspect ratio. Out of the three devices, the S10 and S10+ have an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner while the S10e has a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner.
The three phones also share the same processor for power. India will get the devices powered by the top of the line Exynos 9820 processor – the S10+ uses Vapor chamber cooling while the other two devices have heat-pipe cooling. The S10e will be available in two variants - 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. The S10 and S10+ will have 8GB RAM with the option of 128GB or 512GB storage. The S10e has a 3,100mAh battery, S10 has 3,400mAh whereas the S10+ has a 4,100mAh battery – they will come with fast wired charging support and fast Wireless charging 2.0. A new feature is Wireless power share, which lets you charge other supported devices wirelessly. Other common specifications include expandable storage (up to 512GB supported), USB Type-C port, IP68 certification for water/dust resistance, fast WiFi ax and LTE Cat.20 which gives 2GBps speed. The S10+ will also have a ceramic finish variant with 12GB RAM and 1TB storage that will arrive later in black/white colour options.
On the software side, the S10 range will come with Samsung’s One UI based on Android 9.0. It has various handy features built-in include Face unlock, Dolby Atmos audio, support for Unity engine for gaming, Bixby routine, Adaptive Power etc.

In the camera department, the S10e has a dual rear camera setup. It has a primary 12MP sensor with f1.5/f2.4 dual aperture, dual-pixel autofocus, optical image stabilization and a second 16MP f2.2 ultra-wide lens. The S10 and S10+ feature a triple rear camera system. They have a 12MP sensor with f1.5/f2.4 dual aperture, dual-pixel autofocus, a 16MP f2.2 ultra-wide lens and a 12MP f2.4 telephoto lens with dual optical image stabilization. The camera can recognize 30 scenes and record super steady videos like an action camera. For selfie lovers, the S10e and S10 feature a 10MP camera with f1.9 aperture and dual pixel autofocus. Galaxy S10+, on the other hand, gets a front dual camera: 10MP f1.9 + 8MP f2.2 setup with live focus and dual pixel autofocus. The phones also get a new steady shot video recording feature which Samsung says will deliver the same quality of video as an action camera.

The three phones will come in four colour options: Prism White, Prism Black, Prism Green, Prism Blue, while the S10e will get additional Canary Yellow and Flamingo Pink option. The S10+ will come in premium variant with Ceramic White and Ceramic Black colours. Pre-booking for the S10 range starts from 21st February and those who pre-book get the newly launched Galaxy Buds free. Price for the Samsung S10 is US$ $899.99 onwards, US $999.99 onwards for Galaxy S10+, and US $749.99 onwards for the Galaxy S10e. Pre-orders start from 21st February 2019 and the phones will be available from 8th March. The three smartphones are confirmed to launch in India in March 2019.
