Samantha Ruth Prabhu opens up about pregnancy weight gain
During an Instagram Ask Me Anything session, Samantha invited fellow moms-to-be and new mothers to share how they were doing. She also gave fans a peek into her own preparations for motherhood. The actor joked that she had already purchased several baby essentials but had suddenly become a little overwhelmed by them. One fan then spoke about gaining weight during pregnancy and asked Samantha about her experience. Responding to the question, the actor revealed that she had gained 11 kg so far.
For Samantha, however, the focus appears to be less about the number on the weighing scale and more about keeping herself comfortable and healthy. The actor, who has maintained a regular fitness routine for years, has also changed the way she approaches exercise during pregnancy.
Samantha shares seven fitness mantras
Two days ago, Samantha shared a series of videos on Instagram explaining how her workouts have changed. She first made it clear that her approach is personal and should not be treated as a fitness guide for other pregnant women. The actor explained that she has been strength training for years and has continued exercising during pregnancy only after getting clearance from her doctor. She also works with a trainer who is certified in prenatal training.
Her first lesson is to listen more closely to the body instead of constantly trying to push harder. Pregnancy has changed the way she measures a successful workout. Rather than trying to reach her previous limits, Samantha is learning to understand what her body can comfortably handle on a particular day.
She also revealed that she now stops at around 70% of her maximum effort. This means her current workouts are not about exhausting herself or reaching peak performance. Instead, she is leaving room for her changing physical needs.
Another important part of Samantha’s approach is accepting that not every day feels the same. She said there are days when she feels strong and can exercise normally, while on other days she has to modify her workout.
Sometimes, she said, the workout may involve spending much of the session simply lying on the floor. For someone who has spent years training her body to do more, Samantha sees this change as an important lesson.
She explained that she is now learning to respect her body when it asks her to do less.
Her fitness goals have also changed because she is going through something much bigger - growing a baby.
Why Samantha says every pregnancy is different
Samantha was particularly careful to point out that her fitness routine is not suitable for everyone. She said her workouts have been changed according to her body, her experience and her pregnancy, with guidance from her doctor and prenatal-trained fitness professional. That disclaimer is important because exercise during pregnancy needs to be approached differently depending on an individual's health, pregnancy and medical history. Pregnant women should speak to their healthcare provider before beginning or continuing an exercise programme.
Regular physical activity, when considered safe by a healthcare professional, can have several benefits during pregnancy. It may support cardiovascular health, encourage healthy weight gain and help lower the risk of certain pregnancy-related complications.
Samantha’s approach also places emphasis on recognising warning signs. Fatigue, dizziness, pain or unusual discomfort are reasons to slow down, stop exercising and seek appropriate medical advice.
Ultimately, Samantha’s seven fitness lessons are less about chasing a particular body or weight and more about adapting to change. After years of training herself to become stronger and push further, the actor is now redefining what strength means to her.
For the mom-to-be, staying fit during pregnancy does not necessarily mean doing more. Meanwhile, on the work front, She was last seen in her blockbuster comeback Telugu movie Maa Inti Bangaaram. Currently streaming on Netflix.
