Himanshu Gandhi shares how reading has helped him to wade through the pandemic, one book at a time.
There are two books that Himanshu Gandhi CEO and Co-Founder of Mother Sparsh has been reading during the lockdown – 'Principles: Life and Work' by Ray Dalio and 'Shoe Dog' by Phil Knight.

"In the former, one of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs Ray Dalio talks about his unconventional principles that led to prosper both personally as well as professionally, whereas in the latter, Nike founder Phil Knight has given insights about his tryst with the launch and success of his global brand," he says.

Good books

When you read books written by entrepreneurs and business leaders, it ends up filling you with a new perspective towards life as well as your professional endeavours feels Gandhi.

"While such books get you acquainted with the challenges that might come your way in different stages, they further allow you to explore unique solutions based on your own temperament and outlook towards life. I have no qualms in saying that reading these books has resulted in much value addition and a fresh perspective," he says.

As the business consumes most of his time, Gandhi does not get to devote much time to book reading during the working days.

Fuel full

"However, I make sure I get myself immersed in a book on all weekends. While cycling keeps me going on weekdays, books are my fuel for the weekends. When you read a story, novel or book, it allows you to digress at least momentarily from the issues bothering you. You explore an unseen world and the stories give wings to your imagination irrespective of whether you are confined within four walls. This eventually helps in minimizing your stress levels and relaxing your mind up to a great extent. Possibly that is the reason why many people have a habit of reading something before going off to sleep. It is the relaxing and calming effect of the book that leads them to a sound sleep," he says.

While everything is available in its electronic form today, some things are always better when done the old conventional ways. Book reading is definitely one among them.

Gandhi prefers reading a physical book, as the habit has remained with him throughout his growing up years.

"Also, reading a physical book is an experience in itself wherein you forget about the troubles of charging your device or downloading content. It’s just you and your companion in your book," he ends.
