YogaBar co-founder has read over 1,000 books, says periodic digital detox is very important

Anindita Sampath Kumar shares how reading has helped her mental health.

Sampath Kumar does Pranayama as it helps centre and calms her down.
Anindita Sampath Kumar, Co-Founder, YogaBar maintains balance physically, emotionally and in everything that she does. "I also have been practising Yoga for over 20 years and I eat very clean balanced food. I do Yoga every day for an hour and I take most of my calls while I walk. This usually lasts about an hour or two a day (my non-zoom calls)," she says.

Sampath Kumar has always been vegetarian but she turned vegan a few years back. "I don’t prefer to eat packaged foods at all. I eat plenty of salad, vegetables and lentils and millets. Less processed, natural foods are easier for the body to digest and use. This put lesser metabolic stress on the body. Also, it's easier for the body to automatically control portion size when the food is natural or lightly processed," she says.

Mind map

She read a lot and has read over 1,000 books. "It feels like I am learning and seeking knowledge through them. I don’t focus on sharpening my mind - I focus on staying in present and I do that with having balanced nutrition - good proteins, carbs and healthy fat. More than food, habits help when it comes to keeping the mind sharp. Sleep is extremely important - at least eight hours a day. Not always being turned on to the phone or laptop and switching off is very important. One thing that I avoid is high sugar foods after six or seven in the evening. This helps the body unwind more easily to get a good night's rest," she says.

Yoga
Sampath Kumar does Pranayama as it helps centre and calms her down. "I learnt this from my father - he always said, 'what does it profit a man to win the world and lose your soul'," she ends.
