During his stint as the Reserve Bank of India governor, Raghuram Rajan often found himself in the headlines. But after stepping down from the role and returning to academic life, he has judiciously stayed away from the media. He finally relented, granting an interview to the Chicago Booth media team, which was published on the university's website last month.

In the brief interview, Rajan touched upon a multitude of topics, from life at Booth to the 2008 financial crisis. Expectedly, he was asked about his job as a policymaker. And given his mastery over words, Rajan explained it in the way that only he can.

“You're going 60 miles per hour with the rain pattering on your windshield, and the windshield is fogging up.

And you're on a highway, so you can't stop, because you could cause a pile-up, but you have no idea what's in front of you. That's sort of policy making,“ he said. It's all about being on a roll.
