‘No one at Twitter is working just to keep the lights on.’ Parag Agrawal breaks silence over high-profile firings as Musk puts deal on hold

The Twitter headquarter is currently going through a storm of uncertainty, and in the eye of that storm stands its CEO, Parag Agrawal. As Tesla CEO Elon Musk puts his $44 billion dollar Twitter deal on hold, Agrawal has rolled heads in the organisation, amid these uncertain times.

Kayvon Beykpour, the head of consumer product of the company was ‘asked’ to leave by the CEO while he was on paternity leave. Beykpour revealed in a tweet that the only reason that Agrawal gave for terminating his 7-year-long employment in the company was to ‘take the team in a new direction.'
“Parag asked me to leave after letting me know that he wants to take the team in a different direction,” Beykpour tweeted. “While I’m disappointed, I take solace in a few things: I am INSANELY proud of what our collective team achieved over the last few years, and my own contribution to this journey,” he added.
Right after Musk’s deal was finalised, another senior executive – general manager for revenue Bruce Falck – was also fired by Agrawal.


While these high-profile exits, amid a stalled takeover is baffling many in the company, Agrawal had maintained a stoic silence on the nature and reason for these firing. However, on Thursday, the 37-year-old finally broke his silence, and took to Twitter to justify the exits, especially after facing backlash from many on social media.

In a string of tweets Agarwal said that some have been asking him why a 'lame-duck' CEO would make changes if Twitter was getting acquired anyway. However, his reasons are simple. While he expects the Musk deal to happen, he is preparing for all contingencies.
The CEO said that the company is currently operating not just for the sake of it, but with a sense of purpose, even during such turbulent times. Agrawal added that all employees of the company are working towards making Twitter a better product for consumers and shareholders. “No one at Twitter is working just to keep the lights on. We take pride in our work,” he added.
Agrawal further claimed that despite being in a limbo in terms of ownership, he is still focussed on the job, which means he cannot postpone making some ‘hard decisions’ for the health of the company.
The CEO ended his tweets with a promise of more changes for the betterment of the company. The CEO signed off by expressing his gratitude to the whole Twitter team, which have stood strong in such transient times.
