Billionaire Elon Musk is soon to be the owner of Twitter. A week after disclosing his stakes in the social media giant, and after days of speculations, the news is official now. On Monday, it was confirmed that Twitter agreed to the USD 44 billion takeover by Musk. The SpaceX boss has been particularly active on Twitter in the run-up to becoming its owner.

Lately, the Tesla Chief has posted polls after poll, memes, and his thoughts on how the social media platform should uphold the freedom of expression. While for legions of Musk fans, the development may come as jubilation, however a large section on Twitter seems unable to fathom Twitter under the new leader.

In the aftermath of the biggest development in the world of Tech, the microblogging site was abuzz with polarised reactions from users across the globe. The hashtags ‘Leaving Twitter’ and ‘RIP Twitter’ began trending on the platform. Below are some of the tweets that caught the attention of users.


For a user identified as Nathan Bosia, the trend ‘Leaving Twitter’ was a clarion call for a digital detox. Bosia said that anyone who is thinking of leaving the platform should consider the application called ‘Outside’. “It has top tier features like fresh air and the sun and forests and lakes and bookshops and cake and all your friends and family live there,” he reasoned in his tweet.
The trend ‘Leaving Twitter’ also witnessed many users sharing hilarious memes.
Indian Twitter exploded with humorous memes. Some of which featured popular comedy scenes from Bollywood blockbusters.
Another hilarious meme had former US President Donald Trump dancing to the track Malhari from ‘Bajirao Mastani’ from 2015.
Users who were largely unaffected by the apparent transfer of ownership made their presence felt too.
The development also led to a war of words between users identifying themselves as liberals and conservatives. Many users hailed Elon Musk’s acquisition, some were quick to ask if he had plans to restore the account of former US President Donald Trump who was permanently banned from the platform last year.

Amid the pandemonium, Twitter’s incumbent CEO Parag Agarwal has also been trending on Twitter.
Several users shared memes suggesting alternative careers for Agarwal after the takeover by Musk.
Parag Agarwal became the CEO of Twitter after Jack Dorsey announced his resignation in November 2021. According to reports, Agarwal told his employees that he is unaware of the future course of the company after the takeover by Elon Musk. Reportedly the estimated deal will take nearly six months to complete.
