Took CEO role to strengthen Twitter, Parag Agrawal tweets as exit looms

Mumbai: Amidst speculation about his future, Twitter chief executive Parag Agrawal tweeted on Thursday that he took the chief executive officer (CEO) job to strengthen Twitter and change it for the better.

Agrawal, in a tweet on April 28, lauded the employees who continued to work with focus “despite the noise” around Elon Musk's takeover of the social media portal.

He added that he was proud of Twitter’s employees who continued to work with focus and urgency despite the noise around Elon Musk’s potential takeover.


"I took this job to change Twitter for the better, course correct where we need to, and strengthen the service. Proud of our people who continue to do the work with focus and urgency despite the noise," he tweeted.


Agrawal will reportedly receive about $42 million if he is sacked within 12 months of Musk’s takeover.

On April 26, Agrawal had said Twitter has a purpose and relevance that impacts the entire world. He wrote: "Deeply proud of our teams and inspired by the work that has never been more important. I know this is a significant change and you're likely processing what this means for you and Twitter's future.”


Musk struck a deal to buy Twitter for $44 billion earlier this week. In a securities filing on April 14 he said he did not have confidence in Twitter's management, putting Agrawal’s future at the firm in doubt.
