Wordplay at its finest: Anand Mahindra’s tweet on Oxford dictionary triggers a storm of new words on Twitter.
We live in a world where language, as we know it, is ever-changing and always evolving. Every now and then, the folks at Oxford add new words to their English dictionary to keep up with the new trends in language. Some of them are slangs, others include colloquial usage of well-known words. Oxford Dictionary, that's also known for adding words from popular culture, included ‘selfie’ in 2013 and 'hangry' in 2018.

Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra group, sent out a tweet yesterday which showed the most likely candidates for addition to the Oxford dictionary.

The business tycoon said that he can see himself using these words frequently. That was when the creative juices of the Twitterati started flowing in copious amounts. What followed next was a storm of new words on the platform which were inspired by the words Mahindra shared in his tweet. Here are some of them:

When you first go through the Twitter thread, you might feel the urge to stay away from the conversation (or, as Oxford might soon call it, ‘nonversation’). But, it is only a matter of time that the witty, tongue-in-cheek words will suck you in and the next thing you know, you’re coming up with new words yourself.

Some of Mahindra’s followers started speculating if the businessman had been inspired by the master of words and vocabulary, Mr. Shashi Tharoor.

To further cause a stir online, the 64-year-old sent out another tweet which contained more words likely to be seen in Oxford.

This gentleman felt so creative, that he used all of them in a sentence.

Needless to say, the good folks at Oxford would be really pleased if they were to have a look at some of the words Indian Twitter came up with.

“I think it would be Ireena Vittal (inset) [for professional advice]. She has mentored me and I’ve had the good fortune of getting to know her. I don’t speak to her often but when I do, they are valuable exchanges. For personal advice, it would be my family.”

“Anand Mahindra (inset). I respect the way he’s grown the Mahindra empire after he took over from his father. For what I want to do with JSW, he would be a great person to speak to and [I would like to] pick his brains on how he managed to transform the group. For personal advice, I would call my cousin in London. He knows me the best and knows my history too.”
