'Mahesh Bhatt pays household expenses and takes care of mother too': Alia Bhatt's stepbrother Rahul on his 'fractured' relationship with dad

Mahesh Bhatt is a renowned filmmaker, producer, and screenwriter known for his impactful work in Hindi cinema. Beyond his films, the filmmaker often makes headlines for his personal life. Recently, Mahesh Bhatt's son Rahul Bhatt opened up about his childhood and his “fractured” relationship with his father.

For the unversed, Rahul is the son of Mahesh and his first wife, Kiran. They also have a daughter, Pooja Bhatt. During a recent conversation, Rahul recalled how he started thinking that he was the “head of the household” at a very young age after his parents mutually separated in the late 1970s. However, their formal divorce was finalised in 1988.

Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Rahul said, "I had to be my own father. My father was there, but he was not there. He has been a little indifferent to me for reasons he knows best. I love my father, I respect him, but I am not my father. It's a fractured relationship," and he has always faced a communication problem" with his father.

Recalling his childhood, Alia Bhatt's stepbrother Rahul said his mother went through a difficult period after the separation. He described the situation at home as dysfunctional and said there was little communication.



He further added, "My mother used to be unhappy. She used to be at home. There was a lot of negativity. Nobody was interested. There was no communication. It was dysfunctional. He is a great guy. I respect him. He takes care of my mother. I respect that also. Whenever there is a financial crisis, he is there. I can lead a luxurious life in that sense. I am not the breadwinner. My father pays for household expenses."

Rahul also clarified that he earns a comfortable living and is financially independent.

After separating from Kiran, Mahesh Bhatt married actor Soni Razdan in 1986. The couple are now parents to two daughters, Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt.
