Learning Sanskrit & music: N Venkatram opens up about post-retirement plans

Last year, Alibaba’s Jack Ma shocked the world by stepping down as executive chairman to focus on education and philanthropy. According to Ma, it wasn’t a sudden decision but a plan that had been 10 years in the making. On the home front, Deloitte India CEO N Venkatram has a similar vision. While he has no plans to step down from the company anytime soon, he does have a few things figured out about life post retirement.

“When I eventually do retire, I’d probably learn Sanskrit or something,” he told ETPanache recently. “I’m weak on languages so I’d like to learn them but I’ll do that after I retire. And perhaps music. I never had an ear for it.” According to Venkatram, the goal post-retirement is to do something that he’s never done before.
