PV Sindhu may have crashed out of the Denmark Open early, but the Olympic silver medalist is not the kind to let a loss define her. It’s genetic, says Sindhu, whose parents were former volleyball players.

It’s thanks to them that the shuttler took an interest in sports. “They never pressured me to take up the sport they came from but encouraged me in badminton. They were more than willing to make sacrifices. They have always motivated me and that is why I am here and am thankful to them,” Sindhu said at an event in Mumbai a few weeks ago.

Olympic 2016 silver medallist P.V. Sindhu made India proud last month when she become the first Indian to win gold at the badminton World Championships in Basel, Switzerland.



The 24-year-old shuttler has bagged the first-ever Asian Games silver medal for India in the women’s singles badminton event of the Asiad 2018. She also won her third medal in the women's singles final of the World Badminton Championships at Glasgow, and became the first Indian to win Korea Super Series Title.



The badminton player also featured in the Forbes 2019 World’s Highest-Paid Female Athletes list last month.



However, off the court, the sportswoman has scored well when it comes to brand endorsements and deals.

One of the biggest lessons she’s learnt from her parents, Sindhu says is taking things one step at a time. “Even when I started out with badminton, it wasn’t a long term goal. Today too, I always focus while playing on what is happening now. When I focus on long-term goals, I tend to get overwhelmed,” she said.
