Kajal Aggarwal married her longtime boyfriend Gautam Kitchlu on October 30, 2020, at a plush hotel in Mumbai. Kajal Aggarwal recently opened up about modern relationships and the challenges couples face in an increasingly digital world. During her July 2026 appearance on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, the actress discussed marriage, communication and the role social media plays in people’s personal lives.

According to Kajal, "I personally feel its intolerance and I feel that people are so consumed by random social media. Like where do husband and wife sit and talk. Husband is there, wife is there and they are scrolling on their phones. Where is the time that people invest in each other."


The actress questioned how couples can maintain a strong connection when both partners are busy scrolling through their phones.

Kajal and Gautam's weekly dinner rule

Kajal revealed that she and Gautam make it a point to go out for dinner once every week. The actress considers these outings a way for the couple to spend uninterrupted time together and stay connected despite their busy schedules.

The actress also spoke about how technology has changed the way people interact. While social media allows people to stay connected with the outside world, she suggested that constantly being on phones can sometimes come at the cost of communication between partners.

Her views have sparked conversations about how couples manage their relationships in the age of smartphones and social media.

Kajal and Gautam knew each other for years

Kajal and Gautam's relationship did not begin as a typical celebrity romance. The two first met through common friends around a decade ago and developed a close friendship.

In an earlier interview with Vogue, Kajal revealed that they had been friends for around seven years before dating for approximately three years. She described Gautam as someone who had been an important part of her life through different stages.

Their long friendship eventually turned into a relationship, but it was the lockdown that made them think seriously about marriage. Before the pandemic, the two were used to being present for each other at social gatherings and professional events. However, when the lockdown prevented them from meeting for several weeks, the distance made them realise how much they wanted to be together.

Kajal recalled that during those weeks, they could sometimes only catch a glimpse of each other while wearing masks during grocery trips. The experience made them reconsider their future and eventually led them towards marriage.

How Gautam proposed to Kajal

Gautam's proposal was also far removed from a grand Bollywood-style gesture. Kajal has previously described her husband as someone who is understated when it comes to romance.

According to the actress, Gautam had an emotional and honest conversation with her about wanting to spend his future with her. His sincerity was enough to convince Kajal that she wanted to marry him.

Gautam met Kajal's parents in April 2020, and the couple got engaged in an intimate ceremony at home in June. They had initially imagined a larger destination wedding with plenty of celebrations and a crowded dance floor, but the pandemic forced them to change their plans.

Kajal and Gautam got married on October 30, 2020, in Mumbai. Their wedding celebrations included mehendi, haldi and other traditional ceremonies, with the couple incorporating Punjabi, Kashmiri and Telugu customs.

Kajal had spent several years working in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, so the wedding also included the Telugu jeelakarra bellam ceremony. With travel and large gatherings restricted during the pandemic, the couple and their families kept the celebrations intimate.

Kajal and Gautam later welcomed their son Neil in 2022. Since then, the actress has continued to balance motherhood, marriage and her acting career.
