Vidya Balan is known for keeping her personal life away from the spotlight, but glimpses of her Mumbai home have occasionally given fans a look at her taste in interiors. An old video of the actress’ residence is now making rounds online. Unlike the ultra-modern homes often associated with Bollywood celebrities, Vidya’s residence has a warm and traditional character, with wooden furniture, plants, verandas and South Indian-inspired elements.
The actress currently lives in a rented home in Mumbai with her husband, filmmaker Siddharth Roy Kapur. Vidya once spoke about the house at the 22nd Credai Natcon event in Sydney, where she revealed that the couple had looked at around 25 properties before settling on their current rented residence.

Vidya’s residence is located in Juhu, one of Mumbai’s most sought-after neighbourhoods and a popular address among Bollywood personalities. The sea-facing setting is one of the home's most noticeable features.
The apartment combines traditional design elements with the comforts of a contemporary home. A staircase, verandas and large windows contribute to its spacious appearance. The outdoor areas also feature plants, adding greenery to the residence.
The design has a distinctly Indian character rather than following a completely modern or minimalist style. Wooden furniture and traditional touches appear across different parts of the house, giving it a lived-in and personal feel.
According to GQ India, one of the interesting features seen in glimpses of Vidya’s home is a bookshelf placed in the balcony area. The space appears to double up as a quiet corner where books, plants and natural light come together.
Inside, the living room features wooden furniture along with cushions and decorative pieces. Large windows allow plenty of natural light into the interiors, while the verandas add to the open feel of the property.
Plants are also an important part of the decor. They can be seen around the verandas and other areas, adding a touch of greenery to the sea-facing home.
Vidya Balan’s connection to Kerala is also visible in the traditional touches used throughout the residence. The interiors incorporate South Indian influences that give the apartment a distinct identity.

According to Samayam Malayalam, the home has elements inspired by Palakkad, which is connected to Vidya’s family roots. Her father, P.R. Balan, was from Palakkad, while her mother is originally from Guruvayur.
The use of wooden furniture, verandas and traditional design elements gives the home a character that is closely connected to Vidya’s South Indian background. Instead of opting for a heavily stylised celebrity-home aesthetic, the actress appears to have chosen spaces that feel comfortable and familiar.
Reports about Vidya and Siddharth’s Juhu residence have previously stated that the property was purchased in 2012. According to Hindustan Times, the couple reportedly spent more than Rs 14 crore on the apartment, which is said to measure over 1,000 square feet and be located in Pranita Apartments.
However, Vidya’s recent comments indicate that the couple currently lives in a rented home. While she revealed that they eventually chose to rent the property after checking around 25 houses, she did not disclose the amount paid as monthly rent. She said, "We looked around 25 houses but could not agree on any house. And all my life I have lived in my own house with my parents. This is a rented house and I was always like I don’t want to stay in a rented house. We loved the house (the rented one). After looking at 25 houses, we came back here as we liked it but decided to take it up on rent. Our landlord is happy as he is earning a fat cheque."
Vidya Balan’s Jailer 2 debut
On the professional front, Vidya is preparing for her Tamil debut with Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer 2. The actress will share the screen with Rajinikanth in the highly anticipated sequel to the 2023 action film Jailer.
The makers recently unveiled Vidya’s first-look teaser, introducing her character Kantha. Her reveal followed the introductions of SJ Suryah as Bodhi and Suraj Venjaramoodu as Dileep.
Rajinikanth will return as Muthuvel Pandian in the sequel, with Nelson once again directing the film.
