According to an announcement by Prime Video on Thursday, Jailer 2 will start streaming on November 12. The platform confirmed the release date through its social media account, writing, "TIGER MUTHUVEL PANDIAN is back. RELOADED. #Jailer2OnPrime, Nov 12." However, the decision to release the film online while it is still playing in cinemas was not a last-minute move.
Why is Jailer 2 coming to OTT soon?
According to a report by The Indian Express, the November 12 OTT premiere was finalised even before Jailer 2 arrived in cinemas. The four-week gap between its theatrical and digital releases is part of a contractual agreement between the producers and Prime Video. The arrangement was reportedly completed during the film's pre-release negotiations. The timing of the digital premiere also coincides with the arrival of several new films during the Diwali week. Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana, Suriya's Scene and Nayanthara's Mookuthi Amman 2 are among the releases competing for audience attention. These films are expected to take over screens, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where Jailer 2 has enjoyed a strong theatrical run.
The Rajinikanth-starrer may still continue in selected theatres, especially single-screen cinemas in smaller towns. However, its theatrical presence is expected to reduce as more films arrive.
