Gastro doctor Dr Pal reacted to the revelation, stressing that sleep is far from passive. It’s a critical phase where the body performs metabolic repair, particularly in the gut. Poor or short sleep can disrupt the balance of gut microbes, reducing good bacterial diversity and increasing harmful bacteria. This imbalance can trigger higher hunger, intense cravings, and elevate the risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
