It is the IPL season. And, besides rooting for your favourite team, frantically checking for scores, analysis, fan reactions, GIFs are among the many preoccupations of millions of cricket fans. However, endlessly scrolling through social media and a gazillion other websites and applications can be a killjoy.

To put all the qualms to rest, the leading micro-blogging platform, Twitter, is coming up with a quick fix. At present, the social media giant is testing an India-specific cricket tab on the Android platform. According to an official statement, the tab will act as a single landing space for all things related to cricket along with exclusive and Twitter-first content.

The feature will cater to the millions of fans of cricket who are looking for undivided access to exclusive content, videos, match updates, scorecards in real-time. The feature will allow users to access interactive widgets on their favourite game.

“Everyday people come to Twitter to keep informed about what's happening and their interests. Among the various passions that people pursue in the service is cricket. In fact, 75 per cent of people on Twitter in India identify as cricket fans and 58 per cent play the sport," Twitter said in its release.

Nearly 4.4 million Indians shared 96.2 million tweets about cricket between January 2021 and January 2022. This high volume of interaction and engagement has prompted the company to conceptualise a stand-alone tab dedicated to cricket.
