Both Dhanush and Alia Bhatt enjoyed phenomenal success both in terms of box-office as well as criitical acclaim this year.
‘Thiruchitrambalam’ star Dhanush occupied the top spot of IMDb’s ‘Most Popular Indian Stars of 2022’ list.

Each year IMDb, which is the most trusted portal for movies, TV, and celebrity trivia, comes up with a list of the most popular celebrities. The list is curated based on the number of visits and views gathered by the pages of each celebrity.

This year Dhanush was the top-ranked celeb, thanks to his much-lauded cameo in the American action-drama movie ‘The Gray Man’ and the phenomenal box-office performance of ‘Thiruchitrambalam’ (Rs 110 crore approximately).

Dhanush was followed by Alia Bhatt, who ranked as the second most popular celeb on the list. The ‘Raazi’ star did not forget to express her gratitude. In an interview with IMDb, she said, “2022 has by far been the most memorable year I’ve had at the movies—I am forever thankful and grateful for the love the audience gave all my films this year and feel honoured to have collaborated with our country’s finest filmmakers and artists."

2022 has been one of Bhatt’s best years both professionally as well as personally. She starred in three massive hits ‘Brahmastra’ (the Ayan Mukerji directorial went on to chart more than Rs 430 crore globally), ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ (the Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie minted about Rs 209 crore and was a major critical success as well) and S.S Rajamouli’s epic period drama ‘RRR’. She also made her Netflix debut through the black comedy ‘Darlings’ which went on to become one of the most watched movies on the streaming platform. This year she also tied the knot with long-time beau actor Ranbir Kapoor. The duo welcomed their first child, a daughter Raha, this November.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan enjoyed a grand comeback this year. She reunited with her mentor Mani Ratnam for the period drama ‘‘Ponniyin Selvan’. The film went on to gross more than Rs 500 crore at the box office. She reached the third position on the IMDB list. Ram Charan Teja, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Hrithik Roshan occupied the fourth, fifth, and sixth spots on the list respectively.
