'I left just 10 minutes early': Gen Z employee shares how one text message from CEO left her stunned

CEO's message sparks workplace frustration

As per the post, the Gen Z employee claimed that she left work just 10 minutes before the scheduled time on one occasion, only to receive a WhatsApp message from the company's CEO soon after. What made the incident more frustrating was that the organisation had previously taken 17 days to reimburse work-related expenses that had been paid out of her own pocket, despite several follow-up reminders.


The Gen Z employee further noted that workplace rules appeared to be enforced selectively. Her manager routinely took breaks lasting nearly an hour without attracting any criticism, while several colleagues also stepped away for around 30 minutes at a time. In contrast, the Gen Z employee claimed she rarely took proper breaks, yet leaving a few minutes early resulted in immediate attention from senior leadership through both a phone call and a text message.

The Gen Z employee, who had only recently joined the company as a full-time worker, revealed that the experience made her realise that professional life was far more challenging than she had anticipated. She also described feeling uncomfortable with additional expectations from their reporting manager, who allegedly insisted that an unpaid social media intern should be hired.

The manager warned the Gen Z employee that if no intern was brought on board, she would have to create all the company's social media reels themselves despite the added workload. The post has since drawn widespread attention online. One user warned the Gen Z employee never to spend her money on office expenses. Another advised her not to take the company seriously if the focus is more on timing rather than productivity. ‘Just be there for getting the experience and as soon as you get a good offer, leave,’ they wrote.
