One social media user admitted that watching new actors portray characters so closely associated with the original film cast felt unusual.


The fan explained, "Hagrid doesn’t feel like Hagrid because someone other than Robbie Coltrane is playing him now. Same with McGonagall, Snape, Dumbledore, Harry, Ron, Hermione, the Weasley twins, all of them. I do not mean to be disrespectful, but they feel like imposters. That’s just my attachment to the actors who played these characters in the films."

However, the user also acknowledged that the series could work well for a new generation of Harry Potter fans while the original movies remain available.



Another one had a completely different reaction, saying the trailer was emotional and captured the magical quality they had hoped to see. The viewer was especially pleased that the preview appeared to give Ron and Hermione greater importance rather than presenting the story solely through Harry's perspective.

The wider cast includes Luke Thallon, Paul Whitehouse, Bertie Carvel, Johnny Flynn, Bel Powley, Daniel Rigby, Katherine Parkinson, Warwick Davis and Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy.

Based on Rowling's seven-book fantasy series, the HBO adaptation is being written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod is set to direct multiple episodes. HBO is producing the series in association with Bronte Film and TV and Warner Bros Television, with Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts and David Heyman also serving as executive producers.

For viewers in the United States, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is scheduled to premiere on HBO during Christmas 2026. In India, the upcoming HBO Original will be available to stream exclusively on JioHotstar.
