A US based interventional cardiologist has sparked widespread conversation online after revealing what he calls the fastest and most effective way to reduce stress and lose weight without relying on traditional dieting. Dr Sanjay Bhojraj, known for combining functional medicine with cardiovascular science, shared the insight in a recent Instagram post, urging people to rethink their approach to metabolism and emotional well being.

Not a diet, but metabolic flexibility

In his post, Dr Bhojraj stated that the real solution lies in restoring metabolic flexibility rather than counting calories. The report from his Instagram post quoted: “The fastest way to improve both your stress levels and your weight isn’t a diet… it’s restoring metabolic flexibility.”
He explained that high stress blocks weight loss because the hormone cortisol interferes with blood sugar regulation, slows thyroid function and increases inflammation, causing the body to store rather than burn calories.

When stress hormones calm down, metabolism cooperates

The cardiologist emphasised that stabilizing stress hormones can transform how the body burns fat and responds to nutrients. As quoted from his Instagram post: “When your stress hormones stabilize, your metabolism stops fighting you and starts working with you.”

Small real world changes that matter

According to the post, Dr Bhojraj recommended three daily practices that support metabolic balance:
• Begin the morning calmly without scrolling or rushing to prevent early cortisol spikes
• Consume protein early in the day to keep blood sugar steady and prevent afternoon energy crashes
• Move for five minutes after meals to lower insulin and improve fat metabolism

He stated that lowering stress first makes weight loss “easier and more predictable,” adding that functional medicine prioritizes sleep, gut health and cortisol rhythms before creating any calorie plan.

Dr Sanjay Bhojraj is an Interventional Cardiologist and Certified Practitioner of The Institute for Functional Medicine. He is the founder of Well12, a 12 week wellness program focused on evidence based lifestyle strategies including nutrition, breathwork, sleep and stress regulation. His work spans genomic medicine, advanced lipid testing and epigenetics.

The cardiologist’s message arrives at a time when chronic stress, sleep deprivation and burnout are shaping global health patterns. His perspective suggests that sustainable fitness may begin not in diet charts, but in nervous system balance.
