NEW DELHI: The family of Sushant Singh Rajput finally bid farewell to the actor, who died in Mumbai on June 14, on Thursday.

Father Krishna Kumar Singh, sister Shweta Singh Kirti, and other family members immersed the 34-year-old actor's ashes in the Ganga river.

The 'Asthi Visarjan' (Ashes immersion) rituals was performed at the Gandhi ghat, a few kilometres from the late actor's Rajiv Nagar residence in Patna, Bihar.

Rajput's father and two sisters reached the Gandhi ghat along with other family members and a priest, boarded a boat and immersed the ashes in the river amid the chanting of vedic mantras.

On Thursday morning, the actor's sister Kirti had confirmed that the family members had reached their hometown for the immersion of ashes from a now-deleted her Facebook account.

In her post she wrote: "Today we will be performing Asthi Visarjan for bhai. I want to ask everyone to pray for him and send him off with all the fond memories and unconditional love in your hearts. Let's celebrate his life and give him a very loving and happy farewell. #SushantSinghRajput".

A day after Rajput was found dead in his Bandra apartment in Mumbai, he was cremated at the Vile Parle crematorium amidst heavy downpours in the presence of family members and close friends from the film and television industry.

Advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha recently has filed a complaint against Karan Johar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Salman Khan, Ekta Kapoor and four other people in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in a court in Bihar's Muzaffarpur.

The case has been filed under section 306, 109, 504 and 506 of IPC.

A special team has been put in place to investigate the death of the Bollywood star. On Thursday, the police called Rajput's close friends to record their statements. Actress Rhea Chakraborty, who was rumoured to have been dating the ‘Kedarnath’ actor, was interrogated for nine hours straight at the Bandra Police Station.

So far, the police have recorded statements of 13 people, including Rajput's family members and Bollywood casting director Mukesh Chhabra. People from some production houses are also expected to be called for an enquiry. The police were trying to understand reasons behind Rajput's depression.

The untimely death of Rajput sent shockwaves among celebrities and his fans. Scores of actors and public figures from all quarters expressed their condolences.
