Fans not happy about ‘Beast’ box-office performance, Thalapathy Vijay’s father blames poor screenplay
The film was released worldwide on April 14 and has so far collected over Rs 200 crores.

The development is unprecedented as there has been rarely an occasion where a Kannada film overtook a Tamil film headlined by one of Kollywood’s most talented superstars.
Thalapathy’s highly anticipated ‘Beast’ was released on April 13 and ‘KGF: Chapter2’ was released on April 14. Vijay’s film had a good start in the first week, however, business slowed in the succeeding week.
The film helmed by acclaimed film-maker Nelson Dilipkumar opened to mixed reviews. With an action-packed trailer and foot-tapping songs that became instant hits on Instagram reels and social media, the build-up and the excitement were palpable. However, now it seems the excitement seems to be fizzling out.
While there are numerous reasons why the film did not meet the expectations, superstar Vijay’s father seems to be disappointed by the screenplay of ‘Beast’. Vijay’s father noted film-maker SA Chandrashekhar has panned the makers of the film for entirely relying on the superstar’s stardom. Chandrashekhar went on to say that young film-makers do not focus on the screenplay the moment they get superstars on board.
Chandrashekhar in an interview with Thanthi TV said that he enjoyed the song ‘Arabic Kuthu’ like any ardent fan, however, he felt that the film was solely made based on Vijay’s stardom.
In the last seven days, the film earned Rs 210 crore worldwide and on April 19 it grossed Rs 25 crores. The latest figures make the film at par with the worldwide box office collection of Ajith’s ‘Valimai’ which grossed Rs 235 crores.
