Family pics & a garden view: Ritu Chhabria's workspace is warm and comfortable

The non-executive director of Finolex Industries believes having cushions on the floor adds a comfortable vibe to any space.

Ritu Prakash Chhabria always looks for simplicity while designing a space.
For Ritu Chhabria, non-executive director, Finolex Industries, the den at her Pune house is the space where she unwinds with her close family.

My den is...
It’s a contemporary space. I’ve used wood, beige and orange colours. These are also the colours that I live with. This is a part and parcel of my television room. I have a spot in my den, my favourite place to be when I am watching the television or just relaxing with my family. Over the course of the week, we don’t end up spending much time here. I find that we spend a lot more time here on Sundays.

My space as my reflection
This room overlooks my garden. You can look out on to the lawns, at the fruit trees that we have, through the glass wall. I’m also passionate about music. I like calming music. I am fond of Sufi, Greek and Arabic music. My favourite musicians are Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Julio Iglesias. Old Hindi songs by Mukesh are also an all-time favourite. That’s what I’ve grown up listening to because of my parents (Gopichand and Sunita Hinduja). Songs f rom Raj Kapoor movies are also close to my heart.

Let’s go outside
It’s a space for us to spend quality downtime together. We don’t entertain much in this room. In Pune, you anyway don’t entertain as much indoors as you do outdoors.

“The larger than life television screen is something I just love. We watch live games here, and they play PS4 too. We watch a lot of the earlier games on this big screen. The jerseys here (see pic below) get rotated as we try to mix up the memorabilia. Every time you come here, there’s something new to see. My favourite is the Stephen Curry jersey — the first time he became an all-star.” — Yannick Colaco, Managing Director

“I used to be the national coach of India and visited many of the countries whose flags you see up here. I feel, this gives the space a slight international feel. NBA is going global. My favourites include Mizoram and Iran. I like this area because it’s private, but you still have access to everyone – so you can quickly pop out if you hear something you like. The smaller conference room is also a great place to have a quick meeting.” — Scott Flemming, Head of Basketball Operations

Often I just bring my laptop here when I have to discuss something with a coworker as this space is neutral. It’s the informal space in this formal setting. We also have breakfast and lunch at the bar.” — Mairu Gupta, Sr Director, Content & Media Distribution

“Flowers, especially those that emit a strong fragrance. These give me terrible migraines. I love lilies and tuberoses, and these two flowers always find space in my house. I am partial towards white-coloured flowers, not coloured ones.”

Cushion, cushion on the floor
