Six points to expect from the iconic Brazilian circuit, which has been the race’s regular home since 1990:
1. Interlagos is a venue that has become synonymous with Formula One for both its history and legendary layout. Inspired by the Brooklands in the UK, Roosevelt Raceway in the USA and Montlhery in France, the circuit is very technical with banked corners, a twisty middle sector and the iconic Senna S.
2. Since Interlagos is a short track, qualifying becomes particularly challenging as the margins are small. Overtaking is also difficult but not impossible.
3. Interlagos used to be the final race of the season, and with that came some of the most dramatic title deciders in history like the epic battle between Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso in 2012. The weather may also liven things up giving some of the greats a chance to shine.
4. This will be the first race since 2013 where Mercedes boss Toto Wolff won’t be present but that won’t stop the team and Lewis Hamilton who are eager to continue their winning streak after clinching both the constructors’ and driver championship titles.
5. After Ferrari’s dramatic loss of pace during the United States Grand Prix and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen’s comment that that’s “what happens when you stop cheating”, all eyes will be on the Italian and Austrian outfits this weekend.

6. Formula One will also hold a special fan festival in Sao Paulo ahead of the Grand Prix as a tribute to Ayrton Senna, considered one of the world’s greatest drivers. Expect to see the car Senna debuted in, the Toleman TG184, the Lotus 97T which powered Senna to his maiden grand prix win in Portugal in 1985 and exciting performances from Brazilian drivers Emerson Fittipaldi and Felipe Massa.
