The countdown has already started for the TV's biggest awards night. The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are set to bring together some of the biggest names from television, with several popular shows competing for the top honours. From major nomination leaders to potential records, this year's ceremony has plenty to watch out for.

Streaming date and time of Emmy Awards 2026

For viewers in India, the Emmy Awards 2026 will stream live on JioHotstar. The red carpet and pre-show will begin at 4:30 am on September 15, followed by the main ceremony at 5:30 am.

In the US, the ceremony will air on NBC from 8 pm Eastern and will also be available to stream on Peacock's Premium plan.

Venue and who will attend Emmy Awards 2026

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 15, 2026, at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The ceremony will recognise television programmes that aired between June 2025 and May 2026.

Awards will be handed out across 19 categories covering some of the biggest areas of television, including drama, comedy, reality programming and late-night shows. The red carpet coverage in the US will begin at 5 pm, ahead of the main ceremony.

The event will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay, who is best known for playing Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The actor will lead the ceremony as television's biggest stars gather for the annual awards night.

The ceremony will feature several popular actors and entertainers as presenters. The list includes Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Jon Hamm, Amy Poehler, Sally Field, Keke Palmer, David Harbour, Macaulay Culkin, Dan Levy, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Rachel Sennott.

The Emmy Awards will also look back at some major television milestones through special anniversary tributes. Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be celebrated as it marks 30 years, with Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz taking part in the tribute.

A 50th anniversary celebration for Charlie's Angels is also planned, with Kate Jackson, Cheryl Ladd and Jaclyn Smith set to feature in the special segment.

Which shows lead the Emmy nominations?

HBO Max's medical drama The Pitt leads this year's nominations with 25 nods. Hacks follows closely with 24 nominations, while Widow's Bay has received 19 and Apple's Pluribus has 18.

The Pitt is also among the frontrunners for Outstanding Drama Series. It will compete against Pluribus, Slow Horses, The Testaments and The White Lotus. The medical drama enters the main ceremony after picking up four awards at the Creative Arts Emmys.

The comedy race is expected to be another major highlight. Hacks has earned a record 24 nominations in the comedy categories, while Widow's Bay has strengthened its position after winning eight awards at the Creative Arts Emmys.

There are also some potential records to watch. Jean Smart could make Emmy history if she wins her fifth consecutive Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award for Hacks. Meanwhile, veteran actor Harrison Ford is competing for his first Emmy for his role in Shrinking.
